چکیده

Spectrum zoning is the problem faced by regulators: how to allocate different bands to different rules for radio operation. This problem has largely fallen through the cracks since to the extent that they even recognize the problem’s existence, traditional communities have viewed this as “somebody else’s problem.” Engineers/information-theorists assume that economists/lawyers will handle this and economists/lawyers put their trust in some varying combination of engineers and “the market” viewed as a pseudo-religious entity. This preliminary investigation puts forth a semi-Rawlsian perspective on zoning: viewing it as a robust optimization problem (max minmax for now) in which zoning decisions are made at a slow time-scale in the face of both natural variation in the suitability of different bands for different uses and significant uncertainty regarding user preferences. Consequently, it can make sense to choose band-plans that are not on the Pareto frontier: but only if their runtime flexibility is more valuable than the performance overhead they impose. We examine the issues in the context of a toy model of TVs and wireless ISPs.

CoZo+ - A Content Zoning Engine for textual documents

Content zoning can be understood as a segmentation of textual documents into zones. This is inspired by [6] who initially proposed an approach for the argumentative zoning of textual documents. With the prototypical Cozo+ engine, we focus on content zoning towards an automatic processing of textual streams while considering only the actors as the zones. We gain information that can be used to r...

Conflict resolution in the zoning of eco-protected areas in fast-growing regions based on game theory.

Zoning eco-protected areas is important for ecological conservation and environmental management. Rapid and continuous urban expansion, however, may exert negative effects on the performance of practical zoning designs. Various methods have been developed for protected area zoning, but most of them failed to consider the conflicts between urban development (for the benefit of land developers) a...

Different routes towards oscillatory zoning in the growth of solid solutions.

Oscillatory zoning, i.e., self-formation of spatial quasiperiodic oscillations in the composition of solid growing from aqueous solution, is analyzed theoretically. Keeping in mind systems like (Ba,Sr)SO4 , we propose a one-dimensional model that takes into account the nonideality of the solid solution and the system asymmetry, in particular, reflecting itself in different solubilities for such...

DOES REDUCING SPATIAL DIFFERENTIATION INCREASE PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION? EFFECTS OF ZONING ON RETAIL ENTRY AND FORMAT VARIETY By

This paper investigates the impact of spatial zoning restrictions on retail market outcomes. We estimate a structural model of entry, location and format choice across a large number of markets in the presence of zoning restrictions. The paper contributes to the literature in three ways: First, the paper demonstrates that the omission of zoning restrictions in t...

Practical Step towards Sampling in Qualitative Research; Focused on Grounded Theory

Today, there is a growing trend towards qualitative research in different areas of academic investigations. However, students face difficulties in deciding on qualitative methods of research, because most of the literature on qualitative research focuses on the philosophical and theoretical aspects, and they hardly offer any practical guidelines. This problem is rooted in the essence of qualita...
